The Defenition of Writing

The Defenition Of Writing
Writing is one the four basic skills in teaching and learning which must be mastered by the the students and taught well by the teachers. Writing is a language in printed form; it is used to convey information about something and to express idea. Writing is also a system of intercommunication by means of conventional visible marks. Hartfiel, (1985:1) say: “Writing is the primary means for conveying information, ideas, beliefs, and impressions to other when the ideas are too complex to express orally, when face to face is not possible or when a permanent form of communication is needed.”
Furthermore, Churchill and friends (2010:1) say the defenitions of writing as follows: a) The act of forming letters and characters on paper, wood, stone, or other material, for the purpose of recording the ideas which characters and words express, or communicating them by visible signs; b) Anything written or printed; c) Anything expresson in characters or letters; any legal instrument, as a deed, a receipt, a bond, an agreement, or the like; d) Any written composition.
Writing is the graphic counterpart of speech, the fixing of spoken language in a permanent form (Gerrit, 1970:17). It means that writing is aspoken language which is conveyed through written language or symbols. Writing is a thinking process (white,1970:1).
From the all defenitions of writing above, we can conclude that writing is an act of personal or group which is used to express ideas, thoughts, feeling, message, and information through written language symbols. On the other word, it can be defined that writing is a discovery process ; it involves, ideas discovering how to organize them and discovering what you want to put on your reader.
